Midwestern Living.
Here are things that I have done since returning to my midwestern homeland:
- Eaten cheese curds
- Shot a raccoon with the bb gun from A Christmas Story
- Gone to the Museum of Science and Industry
- Driven a Mustang
- Walked through a forest preserve
- Made small talk with complete (and yet midwestern-ly friendly) strangers
- Chopped wood with a hatchet
- Worn a flagrantly excessive amount of flannel
It’s good to be home.

Barrington.
Alright. So, I realized upon returning home from college, that I forgot how ridiculously affluent almost everyone in Barrington is. Barrington is like its own subculture. I just got back from my sister’s bridal shower, which was basically straight up real housewives of Barrington. It was both a wonderful display of generosity (on the part of the attendees) and a testament to how Barrington basically isn’t real life. The general dynamic of the bridal shower was pretty amusing. Hannah and Riley would open gift after gift and be flooded with comments like, “Oh, that hand towel is gorgeous” or “That trivet fits so well with your theme”. My favorite part of the whole experience was when Hannah opened a platter that she had registered for. Hannah and Riley explained that the platter could be used as a platter, a tray, a cake container, and a salad bowl. For lack of a better term, I must say that these women completely lost their sh*t. They couldn’t comprehend that this exquisite engineering marvel had four uses…FOUR. I was glad that the ladies that came were excited for Hannah and Riley. That being said, how Barrington is it that an object that will primarily be used to display food merits that kind of response?

And your face looks tasty.(via whale-calls)

My sister asked for guests to bring their favorite recipes to her upcoming bridal shower. This is the recipe I created. Also, Lars is my dog.

Camille Pissarro, Poplars, Eragny, 1895
From the Metropolitan Museum of Art:
This canvas, painted in summer 1895, shows a corner of Pissarro’s garden at Eragny, a small village in Normandy where he lived from 1884 until his death. “Poplars, Eragny” was among the works that Pissarro sold to Durand-Ruel on November 22, 1895. The dealer included it in his major exhibition of the artist’s work in spring 1896.

Phillip Stearns, DCP_0267, 2012. 9” x 6”. Digital C-Print.
RECOMMENDED: A Camera Darkly, curated by A. E. Benenson and featuring the work of Phillip Stearns and Christian de Vietri, is currently on view at The Camera Club of New York (336 West 37th Street, Suite 206) through June 23, 2012. The work on display engages early photographic techniques and the genre’s more contemporary forms. Stearns rewires a digital camera’s photosensitive chips to respond to electric pulses instead of light. The resulting images resemble 19th Century light-less entoptic images. De Vietri submits a series of Gustave Doré black and white lithographs to a scanner, which translates the prints into waves of color, suggesting a complex relationship between printmaking and digital production.Posted on May 21, 2012 via SculptureCenter with 6,207 notes ()
